David Y. Norton

Company Group Chairman, Worldwide Commercial and Operations, Johnson & Johnson

 David Y. Norton is Company Group Chairman, Worldwide Commercial and Operations of Johnson & Johnson, responsible for the CNS, Pain, Infectious Disease, Metabolism, Cardiovascular and Primary Care business in the Pharmaceuticals Group.  Mr. Norton also serves as a member of the Medicines and Nutritionals Group Operating Committee.  He formerly held the position of Company Group Chairman for the pharmaceutical businesses in Europe, Middle East, and Africa and prior to that served as the Company Group Chairman for the pharmaceutical businesses in North America and Canada since October 2001. 

He began his Johnson & Johnson career in 1979 as a product manager for the company's affiliate Janssen Pharmaceutica in Australia.  He advanced to international product manager at Janssen's Belgium headquarters in 1982, returning to Australia in 1985 as managing director of Janssen Australia.  In 1988, following the consolidation of all of the Johnson & Johnson pharmaceutical businesses in Australia and New Zealand, he was appointed sales & marketing director for the combined company, Janssen-Cilag.

In 1990 Mr. Norton returned to Europe and was named vice president of International Marketing for the Janssen group.  Four years later he returned to Australia to assume the post of managing director of Janssen-Cilag Australia/New Zealand.  In 1997 Mr. Norton joined Janssen's U.S. headquarters as vice president of sales and marketing.  He was promoted to president of Janssen Pharmaceutica in 1998, the position he held until being named a company group chairman in 2001.

Born in Sydney, Australia, Mr. Norton graduated from the College of Distributive Trades, London, and the Preston Ploytechnic, United Kingdom.

Mr. Norton had previously served as a committee member of the Australian Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association and the Proprietary Medicines Association of Australia as well as the Foundation Board of the College of New Jersey.  He is also a past chairman of the Health Economics Sub-Committee, Australian Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association.

Among his outside activities, Mr. Norton is a member of the Board of Directors of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention as well as the Alliance for Aging Research.

Mr. Norton is married and the father of two children.
